Who ships buckets and gamma seals fast?

I got a bunch of wheat coming that needs to be packed and I ran out of buckets. Nitropak ships fast but they are a rip off (9 bucks each in 4 packs). They are even more of a rip at honeyville (14 bucks) Places like Walton take weeks sometimes. Anyone know a place to get them at a decent price with fast shipping?

Thanks.

Their buckets say FDA approved, I assume that means they are food grade right?

Walmart paint department...not food grade, but you can use plastic or mylar bags to line them.

Yes, they have food grade, be sure to get the lids that are food grade and gasketed.

I have had Gamma Seal lids for 10 years and found recently that some will slip on the rim of the bucket...NOT exactly airtight. I have considered using silicon caulk to seal them, but instead opted for the paint pails with sealed mylar bags for long term storage...

Hey Mr. Tech,

Is there such a thing as a food-grade gasket? I've got a couple of bucket lids that have bad gaskets. Any type of material that you recommend to replace them? Thanks.

Did you open and close them a lot or did they just go bad?

I have heard of others saying they dont last forever which makes me hesitent to use too many of them. I dont think you can get those rims off very easily if you ever decide to switch back to regular lids.

I wonder if you can buy new rubber rings for the gamma lids anywhere.

I do not use the buckets alone for long term storage. The gaskets are a little extra peace of mind to keep out moisture for my short term storage (less than 1 year). Anything longer should be kept in mylar as mentioned above, but my view is that it doesnt hurt to add the gasketed lids just for that little extra.

Opened it a few times...they are 10 years old, however. I will still use them as they are handy, but I will make sure to seal the contents in mylar bags for long term storage from now on.

I also would recommend nitrogen packed #10 cans for long term food storage. My wife and I have recently opened some cans of whole wheat flour, non-fat milk, and FD pork chops that are twenty years old and still look, smell, and taste fine.

Thats pretty dissapointing that you only opened them a few times. I dont think the age should make much difference. Do they appear physically damaged? I'm starting to feel like i've been ripped of with these gamma seals. A 50 pound bucket of wheat will be opened and closed 50 times or more. If you plan to reuse the bucket they will be opened hundreds of times. I'm not even sure these rims can be taken off, so once the seal goes the bucket will be useless without mylar.

On the other hand it shouldn't be too hard to find replacement O-rings that fit them as long as they are a standard size. I found some O-ring manufacturers online but they want an email for a quote so I'm not sure they will be affordable to buy a small quantity like a dozen or two.

I mainly want the gasket for after I open each mylar bag. I was buying one for each bucket since I thought they would last forever (ie like advertised). Now I might just use regular lids so I dont get stuck having to pry of the gamma rim if the seal craps out down the road. Maybe I'll buy some silicone caulk as a bandaid if I cant find the right o-rings.

BTW, some of the lids are loose...not all of them. Loose ones may be defective somehow. I'll have to investigate further.

Sound like what I found in this thread about gamma seals. Some seem to fail when opened and closed, others dont.
